Empathy deals with connecting to another human emotionally and helps to build relationships between people. It is not only feeling sympathetic towards a person but actually feeling what they are feeling. Logic alone cannot get us through the day, we need to feel emotions and feel passionate towards life. Being able to care for others is essential to living a life that is worth while. Being smart and L-directed will of course help you to become successful in a career path, but you need to be able to work with others, relate to others, and care about people that you interact with. Being empathetic is crucial to living a fulfilling and successful life. For example, I am studying to become a teacher and I need to become knowledgable in a wide array of subject material but what kind of teacher would I be if I wasn’t compassionate in my career? I need to have empathy for every student that walks into my classroom in order to give them the best education I possibly can.
